Job Description
The Outlook and The Dadeville Record need a dynamic and talented sports reporter to continue the award-winning sports coverage in our growing communities. The successful candidate will be the sports editor of Tallapoosa County, which includes Alexander City and Dadeville. The Record and the flagship paper Alexander City Outlook cover six high schools, one community college and the region around the South's largest recreational lake – Lake Martin.
We need someone who loves youth and high school sports as much as the people who live here. Our readers consume local sports in great quantity, both in print and on our website. The Tallapoosa County sports reporter will lead our sports coverage in Alexander City and Dadeville and work closely with our sports reporter in Wetumpka and Tallassee in Elmore County to ensure we provide the area's best coverage. We want a thoughtful writer who can spotlight our community's special student-athletes while producing balanced and in-depth coverage of our area. Additionally, the proximity to Lake Martin offers the opportunity to write about recreation, water sports, and outdoor news as well. Our coverage has received statewide recognition, a tradition we want to continue.
Basic social media skills are important because the community is hungry for up-to-date local sports news. Our website is updated daily and reporters are encouraged to use Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms to expand our reach. Some basic photography skills and knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite are helpful but not essential.
The Tallapoosa County Sports Reporter is based at The Alexander City Outlook office and will be part of the locally owned and operated award-winning media company Tallapoosa Publishers, Inc.
