Awards & Events Administrator

Based in New York City, NY

Introduction and Job Overview:
The Writers Guild of America East, AFL-CIO (WGAE or the Guild) is a labor union of more than 7,000 members who write or create content for motion pictures, scripted television, broadcast news, digital media, podcasts, and non-fiction television. The WGAE negotiates, administers and enforces contracts protecting the creative and economic rights of its members; organizes those who are not organized; provides a range of programs and services for members including panel discussions, seminars, social gatherings, training sessions, and events on issues of interest to writers; presents writers’ views to various bodies of governments, and much more.

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Awards & Events Administrator facilitates the WGA Awards submissions, judging, and event production; supports membership-wide meetings, communications, and events; coordinates aspects of the annual WGAE election; and serves as liaison to Union Plus and the Consortium for Worker Education. 

Responsibilities and Duties:
Awards

  • Conduct submissions and judging processes.
  • Update documents and manage mailings.
  • Participate on screenings team, including managing volunteers, liaising with studio PR and venue staff, and hosting screenings.
  • Provide support for any issues related to screeners and voting.
  • Awards event management, including facilitation of awards committee meetings, communications, ticketing, trophy preparations and trafficking, volunteer management, program solicitation and post-event reporting.

Events

  • Creates invitations and manages event attendee lists, including checking in attendees and tracking no-shows.
  • Provides support for set-up, breakdown and audio/visual components.
  • Maintains list of upcoming events.
  • As Union Plus liaison, conducts annual Homebuyers Lunch & Learn and Healthcare Lunch & Learn.
  • Manages funding requests and event reporting for the Consortium for Worker Education. 
  • Conducts pre-work for events including managing submissions and judging for screenplay/pilot readings and pitch practice workshops.
  • Assist with food ordering and set-up when necessary.
  • E-blast support and member database report assistance, when needed.

Pay Range and Benefits: 
The WGAE provides competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package and perks. This position is a bargaining-unit position with United Steelworkers Local 318.

Salary range is $84,173.50 – $90,646.20. The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role and is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special qualifications and other factors.

Requirements/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of experience in events or programming, preferably in the entertainment industry, academia, nonprofit or labor.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills, including meeting planning and event logistics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and on deadline, and to recognize priorities.
  • Labor union experience a plus.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite as well as database management, eblast and web publishing programs. Airtable experience a plus.
